Picnic Ceramics was created out of a slow process of adapting the use of the ancient medium of clay into what you see here as refined, unique and simple everyday jewellery.
In a small studio, working with both earthenware and porcelain clays, beautiful items of jewellery are created. These find their way to you through our stockists and direct sales and are intended to be everyday pieces that you, quite simply, just love wearing.
Each individual piece is crafted with care from its raw form of clay slip through a first and second bisc firing and lastly to its glaze firing before you pick it up.
Using underglazes, each piece is brought to life with its design being slowly hand painted onto every earring, brooch and necklace using the tiny brushes I am forever searching for.
Each piece is finished off with a transparent glaze and metal findings on the earrings and brooches and fine waxed cord on the necklaces. They are then packaged onto a backing card or in a gift box.
Each piece is high fired to ensure maximum strength but is still a thin piece of clay and could break if dropped from height. If your piece needs cleaning, you can use a damp soapy cloth to wipe the surface. Each ceramic piece is entirely waterproof, however frequent exposure may weaken the adhesive.
